The company's venture is the first Brazilian mall completely powered by photovoltaic energy
Multiplan and VillageMall, one of the shopping center company’s projects in Rio de Janeiro, launched an institutional video on Wednesday (July 10) about its recently inaugurated Solar Park. Created by the 6D agency, the campaign consists of two 30-second and 1-minute films that show the company's bets and benefits with regard to the photovoltaic complex for conscientious consumption and environmental preservation.
The solar facility, built by EDP and located in the north of Minas Gerais, is designed to generate 100% of the electricity for the mall, with savings over 40% - which could represent approximately R$ 5.5 million year. The construction of the system will avoid the emission of 227,655 tons of carbon dioxide into the environment during its 25 years of operation, corresponding to the planting of more than 418,000 trees.
With 25,440 photovoltaic modules, the complex covers an area of 240,000 square meters, equivalent to 24 football fields, and is equipped with sun tracking technology - commanding a structure that moves according to the changes in the angle of the solar rays, allowing the highest possible absorption of radiation.
The project is connected to a 9.5-km, 13.8-kV transmission line. Designed to generate 17.52 GWh per year, the energy is enough to supply about 9,700 homes.
"The sustainability theme has always been important for the mall, so much so that we have a series of actions in this regard. They range from sensors that reduce the speed of escalators when they are not being used and a system of automation for the reuse of rainwater through to the architectural project, which is based on natural light," says Gabriel Palumbo, regional director of Multiplan. "The video shows our commitment to the preservation of the environment, a constant Multiplan concern," he concludes.
The campaign will be broadcast on Pay-TV channels such as GNT, Globo News, SporTV, and on the online environment with Globo.com, both Multiplan's and VillageMall's own social networks as well as in the mall’s internal spaces.
